AIM This satellite aims to shed light on the promises and challenges of mRNA as a platform for the development of an HIV vaccine. This satellite will bring complement previous Enterprise work and make it accessible to a broader audience, such as that of AIDS 2022. DESCRIPTION The COVID-19 pandemic has had the beneficial "side effect" of bringing vaccine development and use for infection control back into the public space, prompting intense public debate. The public has never been so informed, or in some case misinformed, about vaccines and their development. There is now an opportunity to capitalize on this interest for the development of an HIV vaccine by building on successful vaccine platforms used in the COVID-19 response. Current and planned research from leaders in the field will be presented and a panel of experts and civil society representatives will discuss the potential of mRNA to lead the way to a long-awaited HIV vaccine.
