In April 2022, a convening of global cure stakeholders at Sunnylands considered how to accelerate the development and delivery of safe, effective, durable, and affordable cell and gene therapy-based cures for HIV and sickle cell disease to resource-limited settings (RLS) of the world. This meeting marked the debut of the third of three workstreams at the HIV Cure Africa Acceleration Partnership each seeking to address bottlenecks in advancing development and access of an HIV cure gene therapy for resource limited settings that includes significant African leadership and ‘DNA' across the discovery, development and delivery cycle for an HIV cure GT. This symposium invites participants learn about proposed outcomes from the April 2022 convening, as well as the two other HCAAP workstreams including the development of a Target Product Profile for an HIV Cure GT and HCAAPs work with communities to build engagement and understanding around HIV cure generally and the potential for GTs specifically. We invite participants to be part of this forward momentum. We will reflect on key takeaways from HCAAPs work over the past year to envision how science, clinical trials, regulatory processes, access pathways, healthy systems and community engagement might adapt to deliver on the promise of new cell and gene therapy technologies and to ensure their availability in RLS. This interactive session serves as a starting point for advocacy in support of cell and gene therapy for HIV cure by building aspiration and considering what stakeholders need to do now to get there later.
