HIV thrives on the margins. Poverty, lack of access to services, discrimination, and marginalization create conditions in which protection from HIV acquisition is weakened, diagnosis is delayed, and people face substantial barriers to prevention services and uninterrupted treatment. The COVID-19 pandemic has only exacerbated these challenges. To reach people who are most vulnerable and to achieve sustained epidemic control of HIV it is imperative to apply an equity lens across the global HIV response. This is particularly urgent for children, adolescent girls and young women, and key populations, for whom substantial gaps remain. This session will showcase innovative, impactful, and people-centered efforts supported by the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) to break down barriers, bridge gaps, and accelerate progress toward reaching the UN Sustainable Development Goal target of ending the AIDS epidemic as a public health threat by 2030.
