Everyday 600 PLHIV will die of TB: TB deaths among people living with HIV has increased for the first time in over a decade, with 215,000 deaths in 2020 due to COVID-19 disruption to TB services and lack of funding. Statistically, the chance that HIV positive patients will acquire TB is 60% in the first 2 years after HIV diagnosis in adults and 50% in children. Guidelines recommend CD4 cell counts at diagnosis as an essential diagnostic tool for identifying high-risk patients who need further diagnostic tests.
