The relationship between mental health and HIV is strong and bi-directional. Those with mental ill health are more vulnerable to HIV infection, and those living with HIV are more likely to have mental ill health than the general population. Despite this, mental health integration into HIV programmes is nascent and underfunded. This session will discuss the importance of mental health in achieving global HIV targets and will be drawing on a new series of articles published in three Lancet journals: The Lancet HIV, The Lancet Child & Adolescent Health, and The Lancet Psychiatry to call upon global leaders to better integrate mental health care into HIV services. Ahead of the Global Fund's replenishment, this session will also explore the importance of integrating mental health into HIV approaches as part of the Global Fund's future programming.
