Despite significant advancements in HIV prevention, treatment and care, people living with HIV continue to face stigma within the clinical setting. Against this backdrop, existing research suggests a gap in the way in which healthcare workers and people living with HIV perceive stigma. This awareness gap has a detrimental impact on people's decision to seek HIV-related prevention, treatment and care services; and may ultimately impact their health and wellbeing. This interactive panel seeks to interrogate research findings on the manifestations of HIV-related stigma in Kenya, Malawi, South Africa and Zambia by centering the expertise of people with the lived experience of stigma in clinical settings. The session aims to equip participants with some with the tools to emulate good practice in stigma mitigation in clinical settings by highlighting key lessons from health care workers who have been recognized for "doing the right thing" in reducing stigma. Ultimately, it aims to empower stakeholders to explore best practices in to remove or reduce the harmful effects of structural stigma.
