Ensuring quality of life for people living with and affected by HIV by reducing HIV infections and HIV-related morbidity and mortality will only be possible if health services provide an integrated response to people's health needs and preferences. The 2021 United Nations Political Declaration on HIV and AIDS commits countries to scale up integrated programmes delivering a broad range of health services to people living with HIV. Getting care for people living with and affected by HIV right requires a flexible healthcare system that allows people to decide on the degree of self-management. Further, a person-centred care approach acknowledges that health needs can evolve over time and are determined by the many components that constitute people's identities, including sex, gender, age, and socio-economic status. This satellite session will provide an introduction to person-centred care, and share good practice models of person-centred care featuring implementers from various settings and regions. The session will also give space to representatives from networks of people living with HIV networks and key population organizations to share their experiences and expectations of health systems. The target audience is programme implementers, ART programme managers and healthcare professionals, as well as people accessing HIV services.
