Drugs, HIV and community involvement: a 360 degree vision on how to approach harm reduction practices and policies" will explore how healthcare access is key to ending overdoses, hepatitis C and, of course, HIV. It will focus on how peer involvement and community-based research can lead to efficient prevention and treatment policies that address health inequalities. Coalition PLUS is an international union of community-based NGOs in the fight against AIDS and viral hepatitis, which operates in 52 countries. Its members' community research, advocacy and health initiatives are complementary to national responses to drug-related epidemics in various contexts. The discussion panel will allow us to exchange about the challenges and opportunities of harm reduction practices/programs in countries that just started applying these policies, like Mali or Senegal, and the leading countries in this field, like Portugal or Canada. The attendants will also have an overview of case studies and worldwide data gathered in research programs like EPIC, which will illustrate the benefits of the community-based approach in research.
